The Battle for The Bahamas:
Anacoana’s Lost Letters

Part 1: The Hidden Treasure

Dear Future Bahamians,

Greetings from the past! I am Anacoana, a proud Lucayan from the serene shores of the Bahamas. We live in harmony with the land and sea, fishing and farming under the sun's warm embrace. Our days are filled with laughter, storytelling, and dance. But there’s more to our peaceful existence than meets the eye—secrets and mysteries that have yet to be unveiled.

Let me introduce you to my friends: Zemi, a mischievous trickster with a heart of gold, and Naira, a wise healer whose potions can cure any ailment. One evening, while sitting around the fire, Zemi claimed to have discovered an ancient map leading to a hidden treasure buried under the big palm tree by the moonlit shore. Skeptical but intrigued, we decided to embark on a treasure hunt that very night.

As we dug under the tree, we uncovered not gold or jewels, but a mysterious box wrapped in ancient cloth. Inside was a glowing stone, pulsing with energy. Just as we marveled at our find, the ground shook, and a shadowy figure emerged from the darkness, warning us that the stone held untold powers and grave dangers.

What does this stone mean? Who is this shadowy figure? Our adventure has only just begun. Until next week, ponder the mysteries of our land, for our history is your heritage.

With intrigue and anticipation,

Anacoana

Hurricane Edition

1.🧊Want to have cold water throughout the storm?
Freeze a case of water bottles and keep them in the freezer. This will ensure they stay cold and as they melt you will have cold drinking water.

2.💡Need to light up a whole room with only one flashlight?
place the flashlight on top of a gallon of water. This will disperse the light like a lantern.

3.🔋Keep your phone charged during the storm.
This may seem like a no-brainer but invest in a solar power bank. Do it now don’t wait- here’s our recommendation click here.

Paranza Italian Restaurant

My friend recommended Paranza, an Italian restaurant in Atlantis on Paradise Island. Being a fan of Italian cuisine—second only to Japanese—I eagerly anticipated the experience. Entering, the hostess greeted us warmly despite the full house. The restaurant exuded intimacy with soft, earth-toned decor and gentle lighting. It balanced elegance with comfort, inviting us to relax and enjoy.

We started with a Frangola Fresca cocktail—Tito's Vodka, Aperol, strawberry, basil, lemon, and Fever-Tree Sicilian Lemon Soda—perfect for the humidity. Our server guided us through the menu, and based on recommendations, we chose six dishes. The rosemary-garlic bread with olive oil was irresistible—crunchy outside, fluffy inside. The Gamberi, a warm shrimp salad, and Polipo, grilled octopus, were our first courses. The octopus stood out for its tenderness and bold flavors.

For the main courses, I had lobster risotto in creamy sauce, while my friend enjoyed squid ink linguini with mixed seafood in chili paste sauce—a standout dish. We paired the meal with a 2016 French Chardonnay recommended by the sommelier. The dessert was Torta—a dark chocolate mousse cake with vanilla gelato.

Service was exceptional, food delightful, and drinks refreshing. Paranza surpassed expectations—worthy of a return visit for its superb Italian cuisine. Is the flip phone back? Some people are switching to dumbphones

Flip phones are making a surprising comeback as more people, especially Gen Z and millennials, opt for "dumbphones" to reduce digital distractions and screen time. These simpler devices, which focus on basic call and text functions, help users avoid the addictive nature of social media and excessive app usage prevalent in smartphones. Nostalgia also plays a role, as many find comfort in the familiarity of older technology. Additionally, concerns over privacy and data security with smartphones drive some to choose these less-connected alternatives.
