Why The Bahamas Is Closer to Space Exploration Than You Think
The Bahamas may be known for its stunning beaches and vibrant culture, but it’s also closer to space exploration than many realize.
From the Editor:
What Da Wybe Is? This week, we explore how The Bahamas is on the brink of space exploration and the latest trends in technology. Dive in and enjoy.
We all know The Bahamas for its stunning beaches and vibrant culture, but it’s also closer to space exploration than most realize. While we're not launching rockets, our location and growing industries put us in a unique position for the future of space travel.
A major move forward is the recent agreement with SpaceX, which allows Falcon booster landings in Bahamian waters. This partnership highlights our proximity to NASA’s Florida launch sites and sets The Bahamas up as a key player in space tourism. With Falcon rockets landing here, we’re becoming part of the global space travel conversation.
Beyond rocket landings, this partnership brings benefits like improved internet connectivity across the islands and STEM education programs for Bahamian youth, inspiring the next generation to dive into the field of space exploration.
There’s also big potential for space tourism. With companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin making space travel a reality, The Bahamas could use its luxury tourism industry to become a pre-launch destination. Imagine tourists getting pre-flight training on a private island or relaxing on our beaches before heading into space.
As the world pushes the limits of space travel, The Bahamas is perfectly positioned to be more than just a spectator. With our strategic location, tech growth, and pioneering partnerships, we’re ready to make our mark on the final frontier.

This past weekend, the Bahamas National Trust hosted their 32nd annual Wine and Art Festival at The Retreat on Village Road. The two-day event (October 5th and 6th) brought together over 40 Bahamian artists, local vendors, food vendors, and more than 70 wines, champagnes, and spirits. With several lounges for guests to relax and the Heineken Garden Afterparty, it was an unforgettable experience.
The main festival ran from 12 PM to 7 PM, featuring a “from vine to wine” concept where attendees could explore vendor booths, sample products, buy art, taste food, and vibe to live music. From 5 PM to 7 PM, the exclusive VIP Champagne Lounge (with ticket purchase) offered Veuve Clicquot, Chandon, and creative cocktails. The evening wrapped up with the Heineken Garden Afterparty from 7 PM to 10 PM, with a DJ and cash bar keeping the energy going.
The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving and protecting the Bahamian environment. At Wybe, we love events like this because they not only bring the community together for a good cause but also showcase Bahamian talent and artistry. Supporting art, culture, and conservation is what the BNT stands for, and we hope if you missed this year’s event, you’ll make sure to catch the next one! It’s definitely going on our Wybe Events Calendar that we’ll release early next year. Cheers to Art and Toast to Nature!

Aerospace giant Embraer has revealed a groundbreaking vision for air travel: the world’s first AI-powered passenger plane, which eliminates the need for a human pilot. Unveiled at the National Business Aviation Association event in Orlando, the concept promises a fully autonomous flying experience, featuring a cabin with a forward lounge, cockpit seating for passengers, and touchscreens integrated into windows.
AI will control all flight operations, while sustainable technology such as electric or hydrogen power underpins the aircraft’s design. Though not yet in production, Embraer hopes this concept will push the boundaries of aviation innovation.

In a significant shift, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has updated its password management guidelines as of September 2024, moving away from the long-standing focus on password complexity. Traditionally, users were urged to create passwords filled with random numbers, symbols, and a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, all in an effort to strengthen security. However, recent research has revealed that these requirements often lead to unintended consequences, such as people reusing passwords or choosing easily guessable patterns.
NIST's latest recommendation focuses instead on password length, advocating for the use of passphrases—long strings of words or characters that are easier to remember yet vastly more secure. While complex passwords can be cracked relatively quickly by modern hacking techniques, longer passwords provide exponentially more protection. The difference lies in the number of possible combinations: a short, complex password might be guessed by an algorithm faster than a longer, simpler one, such as a memorable phrase like "SunsetOverTheOcean123."
By encouraging longer passwords, NIST aims to make password management more user-friendly while also improving security. Passphrases are not only easier for individuals to remember, but they also provide a much larger pool of possible combinations, making it far more difficult for hackers to breach accounts. This move could significantly reduce the reliance on unsafe practices like writing down passwords or using the same one across multiple platforms.
Additionally, the guidelines now advise against frequent mandatory password changes, unless there is a specific reason, such as a security breach. This prevents user frustration and the creation of weaker, easily guessed passwords after repeated changes.
With this new approach, NIST is aligning security with practicality, making it easier for individuals and organizations alike to maintain strong, reliable digital defenses.
