What Da Wybe Is? This week, we’re diving deep—literally. The ocean holds more secrets than we can imagine, some of its largest travelers are passing through our waters. Enjoy this issue!

Twice a year, Bahamian waters become the stage for one of nature’s most stunning performances—the migration of humpback whales. These massive creatures, known for their dramatic breaches and haunting songs, pass through our islands during their long journey between feeding and breeding grounds.
From December to April, humpbacks leave the cold northern waters and head to the Caribbean to mate and give birth in our warm seas. By spring, they’re on the move again, heading back north, giving Bahamians another chance to witness them gliding past our shores. These gentle giants can grow up to 60 feet long and weigh as much as 80,000 pounds, with the females being larger than the males. Despite their size, they are some of the most acrobatic whales, often leaping out of the water and slapping their tails with impressive force.
Humpbacks are also famous for their eerie, almost mournful songs that can travel for miles underwater. Only the males sing, and scientists are still trying to figure out if these complex melodies are a form of communication, a mating call, or something else entirely. What’s even wilder? These whales have to remember to breathe! Unlike humans, who breathe automatically, humpbacks do it voluntarily, meaning even when they sleep, part of their brain stays awake to keep them alive.
For Bahamians, seeing a humpback whale in the wild is a rare and unforgettable experience. So next time you're by the beach, whether in Grand Bahama, Abaco, or Exuma, keep an eye on the water, you just might catch a glimpse of these ocean legends passing through our backyard.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is a television series that is to capture the wonder of a classic tale like Treasure Island and a classic 80s movie like The Goonies set in reality of Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far Far Away. The coming-of-age themes along with the swashbuckling elements work well as it is presented by the creators and showrunners of the series Jon Watts & Christopher Ford. The episodes written by Watts, Ford and Myung Joh Wesner have a find a cool tone that works for someone new to the Star Wars universe or an ultra-fan who has been with the franchise since the 70s. The directors of the first season Watts, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Chung, David Lowery, Jake Schreier, Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert are able to present a fun adventure from episode to episode that can be enjoyed the whole family. The cast dynamic is perfect from the kids to their parents and the pirates they end up interacting with as the interactions feel real even in the most over-the-top circumstances. This series brought to mind other productions like Stranger Things, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Explorers, E.T. and Stand By Me, to name a few, and I look forward to seeing where they take the story in future seasons. I rate season one of this series a rating of 4 out of 5.

Whisk and Roll is the cutest new café to hit Freeport, and we got an exclusive first look (and taste). Located in the RND Plaza, right near Galleria Cinemas, this spot is all about good vibes and even better bites. Now, full disclosure—since it’s next to a bar, the music from next door can sometimes clash with the café’s cozy aesthetic, but trust me, this place is still a whole mood.
The menu? Short, sweet, and to the point. They serve daily dinner specials alongside staple breakfast items, light bites, and patties. But let’s talk pastries—because they do not play when it comes to the sweet stuff. From donuts and danishes to decadent cakes (the Nutella and Biscoff flavors go crazy) and all kinds of cheesecakes, you’re in for a treat. Oh, and they serve coffee all day, which is a major win.
I went for their best-seller, the mushroom burger. This thing is huge, stacked with a rich mushroom sauce, fresh lettuce, and served with thick, homemade potato wedges. You can literally taste the passion in every bite. To wash it down, I had a caramel macchiato cold drink. If you love sweet coffee, this one’s for you. I’m more of a strong-coffee-over-sugar kinda person, but it was still solid.
Then came the real star of the show: the Oreo cheesecake. Listen. Creamy, smooth, and packed with Oreo chunks—this was everything. No exaggeration, it made my whole visit.
On top of all that, the customer service? Top-tier. You can tell this place is a passion project, and the love they put into it shows.
Even though they’ve only been open for a few weeks, Whisk and Roll has serious potential to become a go-to breakfast and lunch spot. And because Freeport needs to support its new local gems, here’s a challenge for you: snap a pic of your favorite drink, pastry, or meal in front of the Whisk and Roll sign and tag us for a chance to be featured in our next issue! Let’s put this spot on the map.

Explosive Starship Launch Seen Across The Bahamas
A SpaceX Starship rocket exploded mid-flight Thursday evening, creating a stunning light show visible across The Bahamas. The 400ft rocket launched from Texas at 6:30pm but disintegrated less than ten minutes later, with SpaceX calling it a "rapid unscheduled disassembly." Residents from New Providence to Ragged Island shared videos of the fiery event, with some comparing it to an asteroid impact. The launch also caused air traffic disruptions in Florida, delaying departures at major airports. The FAA has launched an investigation into the failure, requiring SpaceX to determine the cause before another test flight can take place.

What It’s Like to Skydive Over Grand Bahama
For most, the idea of skydiving is reserved for action movies or bucket-list thrill-seekers. But in Grand Bahama, the experience is real, accessible, and as breathtaking as the waters below. The only question is: Would you take the jump?
Operated by Skydive The Bahamas, this high-adrenaline adventure begins with a scenic flight over the island before you step to the edge of an open aircraft door—10,000 feet above the ocean. A moment later, you’re free-falling at speeds of up to 120 mph, the world rushing past in a heart-stopping 30-second plunge. Then, with a pull of the parachute, everything slows. Suspended above Grand Bahama, you take in the unparalleled view: miles of blue, the white sands of Taino Beach, and the familiar landscape of home, seen like never before. The experience ends with a smooth beach landing—and yes, there’s a video to prove it happened.
Skydiving isn’t for everyone. Some Bahamians call it the “ultimate thrill,” an experience that “changes your perspective on life.” Others aren’t so sure, preferring solid ground to the uncertainty of gravity. One local summed it up: “It looks fun, but y’all go first!”
So, where do you stand? Would you skydive over Grand Bahama, or is this one adventure best left to the brave? Let’s hear it. Reply to this email and tell us your thoughts for a chance to be featured.
