Highlights Of The 2024 Boxing Day Junkanoo Parade
The Shell Saxons Superstars proved their dominance at the 2024 Boxing Day Junkanoo Parade, clinching their third consecutive victory with an awe-inspiring performance that captivated the crowd from start to finish. Under the theme “Masquerade of Nations: The Mystique Behind the Mask,” the Saxons delivered a spectacular display of creativity, culture, and musicality, earning an overall score of 92.06, the highest of the day.
From the moment the first beats of the goatskin drums and the rhythm of the cowbells filled the air, the Saxons’ performance stood apart. Their costumes, a vivid celebration of global mask-inspired designs from cultures spanning the Caribbean to Europe, were a visual masterpiece. Each costume was meticulously crafted, showcasing the richness of traditions from countries like Trinidad, Mexico, and Angola. The music, a blend of traditional church hymns infused with contemporary influences, energized the crowd and brought an infectious energy to Bay Street.
Their flawless choreography and coordinated movements were highlighted by their win in the Best Step Down, Best Off-the-Shoulder Costume, and Best Lead Costume categories. The Saxons’ precision, combined with their electrifying performance, earned them top honors in several categories, including Best Performance, Best Shirley Street Performance, Best Banner, and Best Music.
Despite fierce competition, notably from Roots, who secured second place with an unofficial score of 88.70, the Saxons were in a class of their own. Roots’ theme, “Welcome to Jamaica,” impressed with a vibrant blend of Best Free Dance, Best Choreography, and Best Banner.
The World Famous Valley Boys, with their theme “France,” placed third, but their performance lacked the usual energy, leaving some spectators underwhelmed after months of controversy surrounding the group’s split. One Family finished in fourth, showcasing the theme “Coastal Paradise: Explore, Enjoy and Save our Beaches.”
In the B Division, Fancy Dancers triumphed with a score of 80.57, narrowly edging out Colours, who finished with 80.45. The B Division also saw Fancy Dancers taking Best Music and Best Shirley Street Performance, solidifying their position at the top of the pack.
With the New Year’s Parade near, will the Saxons claim another win, or will their streak end?

And just like that, the 2024 season comes to an end, Wybers!
This year has been an incredible foodie adventure! Wybe Magazine gave me the chance to share some amazing spots from my travels and food-based events with you. In case you missed an issue, here’s a quick recap of the reviews:
Nassau: I explored Louis and Steen’s Market Orleans, Da Plantation Bar & Grill, Mi & B’s Deli & Bistro, Paranza Atlantis, and Meze Grill.
Abaco: My time here led me to Da Valley, The Jib Room, The Wrecking Tree on Green Turtle Cay, and Nippers and Grabbers on Guana Cay.
Freeport: I revisited favorites like Hartman’s Place, and Zorba’s Café, while also trying new spots like The Galley and The Seafood Hub.
Bimini: A place close to my heart, we stopped by Bimini Seafood Company & Conch Bar, formerly Bimini Big Game Bar and Grill.
We even took a brunch battle to the USA, pitting First Watch against Another Broken Egg to crown the best brunch franchise, based on a poll from Tasty with Kc.
This year also featured some amazing events like Paradise Plates and the Bahamas National Trust Wine and Art Festival in Nassau, as well as Festival Noel in Freeport.
Thank you all for your incredible support! I can’t wait to share more restaurant, bar, and event reviews with you in the new year. Cheers to 2025 and Happy New Year!

New Year's Resolutions: Why They Fail?
Every year, millions of people make New Year’s resolutions, with good intentions of improving their lives. Yet, by February, many of those resolutions have already been abandoned. So, why do New Year’s resolutions fail?
One major reason is setting unrealistic goals. Often, people aim for drastic changes, such as losing 50 pounds or exercising every day. While these goals are admirable, they’re often too big to maintain, leading to frustration and eventual abandonment. Smaller, more manageable goals are easier to track and achieve, making success feel more attainable.
Another reason is a lack of planning. Simply saying, “I want to get healthier” without outlining specific steps can lead to confusion and inaction. Successful resolutions require detailed plans, such as meal prepping or scheduling workout sessions. Without these steps, it’s easy to fall back into old habits.
Accountability plays a significant role, too. Many people fail to share their resolutions or progress with others, missing out on support and motivation. Having a friend or family member to check in with or join you in your goals can make a big difference.
Lastly, a lack of self-compassion can derail resolutions. People are often too hard on themselves when they slip up, abandoning their goals altogether. It’s important to remember that progress takes time, and setbacks are a natural part of the journey.
In 2025, instead of aiming for perfection, focus on setting realistic, achievable goals with a solid plan—and most importantly, be kind to yourself when things don’t go exactly as planned.
