From the Editor:
What Da Wybe Is? Happy New year! This week we are diving into the new Bahamian Dream and how it has evolved from the traditional route.
In the Bahamas, the idea of success has long been tied to traditional markers: a stable job, a house, and a growing family. For many, these goals have been synonymous with achieving the “Bahamian Dream.” However, as the world changes, so too does the vision of success for young Bahamians. Today, more than ever, the definition of success is evolving—shaped by new opportunities, shifting values, and the changing demands of modern life.
The rise of the digital age, global connectivity, and entrepreneurial spirit has created a new wave of possibilities for Bahamians. Many young people are moving away from the traditional 9-to-5 work culture and seeking success through their own businesses, online ventures, and creative pursuits. Whether it’s launching a clothing brand, running a social media platform, or diving into sustainable tourism, the pursuit of success now takes many forms.
Success is no longer just about financial gain or societal approval; it’s about purpose, passion, and fulfillment. More Bahamians are choosing careers that align with their values and passions, and a growing focus on work-life balance and mental health is reshaping how success is measured. The younger generation is also placing more importance on community impact, social justice, and environmental sustainability—defining success by the positive changes they can create in their society.
With a rapidly changing world, the new Bahamian Dream reflects a nation in transition, where success is not one-size-fits-all. It’s about breaking free from old expectations and crafting a life that feels true to each individual’s personal journey. As the Bahamas continues to grow and adapt, one thing is clear: the new Bahamian Dream is diverse, dynamic, and built on the belief that success is what you make it.

Happy New Year, foodies! Let’s kick off the year with a much-requested review. For weeks, my inbox has been blowing up with one request: “Check out Pub 352 in Freeport!” So, here it is—you asked, and I delivered.
Stepping into Pub 352, the transformation from the old pub is undeniable. It’s giving modern leafy brunch spot on one side, with greenery and chic décor, while the other side channels a dimly lit, classic bar vibe. Bar tables, cozy booths, and a sleek counter make it versatile for any kind of crowd.
Unfortunately, my first impression of the service left a lot to be desired. I sat at the bar for a solid 5–7 minutes without a single greeting or acknowledgment, even though the place wasn’t particularly busy. A passing server eventually suggested I move to the other side of the bar to catch the bartender’s attention, which worked but shouldn’t have been necessary. A hostess station to greet and seat persons or additional servers during peak hours (like the lunch rush) could definitely smooth out these kinks.
On the plus side, the music was a vibe with R&B tunes on a playlist mixed with sports games playing on various TVs. It’s the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger, whether for a casual lunch or a night out.
Before this visit, I’d popped in over the holidays and grabbed a chicken burger to-go, which was fantastic—juicy, flavorful, and worth revisiting. This time, I decided to dive deeper into the menu. I ordered the seafood pasta, the 352 beef smash burger, and a strawberry Hennessy to wash it down.
Let’s start with the drink: the strawberry Hennessy. Hands down, one of the best Henny cocktails I’ve had in ages. The strawberry purée brought just the right amount of sweetness, perfectly balanced by the tangy lime and that signature Hennessy kick. A+ for mixology.
Now, let’s talk food. One thing to note is that everything here seems to be cooked fresh and made to order and in the order the kitchen receives it. While that’s a win for quality, it means a bit of a wait—anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes depending on the crowd and takeout orders. I waited about 35 minutes for my food and an additional 15 minutes for my burger. When my food finally arrived, though, it was worth every second.
The seafood pasta was a standout. Rich, creamy Alfredo sauce, loaded with seafood (no fishing around for tiny bits), and perfectly seasoned. It was saucy enough to coat every bite—no dry pasta here! Easily one of the best Alfredo dishes I’ve had in Freeport.
Then came the 352 smash burger. This isn’t your average burger; it’s a real-deal grilled masterpiece. The char from the grill added so much depth to the flavor, and the three beef patties, special sauce, and all the fixings made it worth the $15 cost. You don’t find burgers like this at many places anymore.
However, there are some challenges. The wait time for food can be a dealbreaker if you’re in a rush, and the service could definitely use some fine-tuning. But for those with patience, Pub 352 lives up to the hype as a lunch spot, a chill weekend brunch destination, or an upscale bar for an evening crowd.
Final Rating: 3/5

What Do Four Straight Wins Mean for the Saxons – And The Future of Junkanoo?
For the Saxons, four straight wins signal more than dominance—it’s a reign. Their themes, a blend of nostalgia and bold creativity, have captivated audiences and set a new standard for what excellence in Junkanoo looks like. It’s a streak that cements their place as a powerhouse, but it also brings its own pressure. How do you top perfection, year after year?
For their competitors, these victories are a double-edged sword: a bitter reminder of missed opportunities but also a rallying cry. Every rival group now faces the monumental task of dethroning a champion that seems almost untouchable. This rivalry fuels the fire of creativity, ensuring that the Junkanoo stage remains unpredictable and electrifying.
And for Junkanoo itself, the Saxons’ streak is both a triumph and a challenge. It shines a spotlight on the festival, drawing in more spectators, igniting debates, and keeping the culture alive. Yet, it also raises the question: can the art form evolve fast enough to keep every performance fresh and competitive?
As the Junkanoo season closes, one thing is clear: four wins aren’t just a celebration—they’re a turning point. The Saxons have set the bar high, but in doing so, they’ve opened the door for an even greater showdown next year. Who will rise to meet the moment? Or will the Saxons extend their reign into uncharted territory?
