The sun dipped below the horizon, casting eerie shadows over Long Island. The locals spoke in hushed tones about the old lighthouse that stood crumbling at the edge of the cliff. It was said that anyone who dared to step inside would never return, their souls forever trapped in the darkness. Yet, for Marlon and his friends, the thrill of the unknown outweighed their fears.

ā€œYā€™all scared?ā€ Marlon challenged, his bravado masking the unease curling in his stomach.

ā€œI ainā€™t scared of no ghost,ā€ Leon replied, puffing out his chest. ā€œLetā€™s go!ā€

As they approached the lighthouse, the wind howled like a banshee, sending shivers down their spines. The door creaked open, revealing a dark maw that seemed to swallow the fading light.

ā€œYā€™all hear that?ā€ Tasha whispered, her voice trembling.

Marlon dismissed it. ā€œItā€™s just the wind.ā€ But deep down, he felt a chill that had nothing to do with the breeze. They climbed the winding staircase, each step creaking ominously beneath their weight.

At the top, they found a dusty lantern, long extinguished but still somehow alive with an eerie glow. Marlon reached for it, and the moment he did, the air turned icy.

ā€œPut it down, man!ā€ Leon shouted, but it was too late.

Suddenly, a deafening bang echoed through the lighthouse, making them jump. A heavy object slammed against the wall behind them, and Tasha screamed as a shadow darted past the corner of her eye.

ā€œRun!ā€ she cried, panic rising in her voice.

They bolted down the stairs, but the shadows pursued them, whispers echoing in their ears, filling their minds with dread. ā€œStay with usā€¦ foreverā€¦ā€

As they burst through the door, the landscape outside had changed. The once-familiar cliffs twisted into grotesque shapes, and the ocean roared with fury, waves crashing like thunder.

ā€œWhat happened?!ā€ Marlon gasped, turning to his friends, but they were gone. The air was thick with silence, save for the unsettling sound of dripping water.

ā€œMarlonā€¦ā€ a voice called softly from behind him, sending ice through his veins.

He spun around, heart racing, but no one was there. Just the lighthouse looming over him, its light now a blinding beacon of terror. A sudden gust of wind whipped past, almost as if it were trying to shove him back inside.

ā€œJoin usā€¦ā€ the whispers grew louder, and he could feel the cold breath of unseen specters on his neck.

He took off running, but the ground trembled beneath him. A sharp, guttural laughter erupted from the lighthouse, echoing off the cliffs.

ā€œNo! This canā€™t be real!ā€ Marlon shouted, desperation clawing at his throat.

He reached the cliffā€™s edge, panting, trying to process what was happening. But just then, a figure appeared at the top of the lighthouseā€”a shadowy silhouette that stretched and morphed in the flickering light.

ā€œMarlonā€¦ā€ it called, its voice echoing with a chilling familiarity. It was Tasha.

ā€œNo! No! No!ā€ he screamed, stumbling backward.

Suddenly, the lighthouseā€™s door swung open violently, slamming against the wall with a loud bang. Marlonā€™s heart raced as he saw dark shapes pouring out, their features indistinguishable, their intentions malevolent.

ā€œStay with usā€¦ā€ the whispers rose to a deafening roar, drowning out the sound of the waves. The shadows clawed at him, grasping for his legs, pulling him closer to the abyss.

In a final act of defiance, he hurled the lantern into the ocean. It shattered against the rocks below, sending a burst of light into the dark waters. The shadows screamed in rage, and a violent wind swept through the lighthouse, slamming the door shut with a bone-rattling crash.

ā€œMarlon!ā€ Tashaā€™s voice echoed, now frantic.

He turned, but the ground beneath him crumbled. With one last scream, he was pulled into the darkness, the very shadows swallowing him whole.

Days later, a fisherman passed by the now-silent lighthouse. He noticed a flicker of light coming from the top, as if someone was still trapped inside, waiting for a chance to escape. As he turned away, a chilling laugh echoed in the wind, sending shivers down his spine. The whispers of Long Island were heard no moreā€”only the sound of crashing waves and the windā€™s mournful wail, forever haunted by the souls lost to the darkness.

Quote of the week

One of the taglines for this movie: Based On The Shocking True Story Of The Dating Game's Deadliest Bachelor. In the 70's a struggling actress appeared on a popular matchmaking game show as The Bachelorette where she chose Bachelor #3 as her date. Little did she know that the man she had chosen was a serial killer who preyed on women in the state of California.

Woman of the Hour is a dramatic retelling of past events that not only captures the look of the time period it is retelling, but also the general tone of that decade which contributed to the murders being able to take place. Anna Kendrick makes her directorial debut in this motion picture which she also stars in and does a solid job in both. Daniel Zovatto gives an alarming performance as Rodney Alcala since you are able to see his charismatic manner before revealing the violent killer just below the surface and ready to ponce. This film sheds light on the ease with which charming evil can stalk among us when we choose to not be vigilant and the few who escape it by trusting themselves.

I rate this a rating of 3 & 1/2 out of 5 ā€œEngagingā€.

The Mervie scandal has blown up on Bahamian social media, and it all comes down to one house that set off a firestorm. This isnā€™t just about shady paperwork; itā€™s about how a place meant to be a safe space for Ingrid Carey, an elderly woman, turned into ground zero for controversy. Hereā€™s the backstory: while Philippa Carey, Ingridā€™s granddaughter, was working in Chub Cay, she came back home to Freeport and found Mervie Knowles, the administrator of her grandmotherā€™s nursing home, living in her grandmotherā€™s house. Mervie wasnā€™t just staying there; she allegedly got Ingrid to sign over her home, NIB retirement benefits, and her late husbandā€™s life insurance without the familyā€™s consent. Basically, everything Ingrid owned was transferred into Mervieā€™s hands.

Philippa was obviously not having it, and when her side of the story hit social media, people were quick to join in on the outrage. Memes and videos started trending as the public demanded answers and action. The house itself became a kind of symbol for everything that was wrong with the situationā€”itā€™s not just bricks and mortar; itā€™s about the life of an elderly woman that was allegedly taken advantage of while her family wasnā€™t around. Now, everyoneā€™s talking about how we should be treating our seniors better and making sure elder care facilities are held to higher standards.

Whatā€™s wild is that more families have started coming forward, sharing similar stories about the facility, alleging neglect and financial manipulation. The government is on it, with the Ministry of Social Services and law enforcement digging deeper into Mervieā€™s operations. The protests, memes, and viral social media buzz have even pushed for talks about better regulations for elder care in The Bahamas. People arenā€™t just fighting for justice for Ingrid; theyā€™re standing up for all elderly folks who could be at risk .

The house that started it all? Itā€™s now a symbol of a bigger movement, where young people are using their voices to call out injustice and demand change. Itā€™s a reminder to keep the same energy when it comes to protecting vulnerable people in our communities.
