What Da Wybe Is? This week, we spotlight Stephon Rolle, serving leadership, vision, and authenticity with every move. At just 16, he’s proving that true influence comes from service.

At just 16, Stephon Rolle is redefining what it means to be a young leader in The Bahamas. Recently crowned Mr. Bahamas National High School (BNHS) 2025, Stephon describes himself simply: “I’m passionate about volleyball, my faith, and environmental health.” While the title is an honor, it’s his vision and grounded nature that truly stand out.

The moment he was crowned, Stephon admits his first thought wasn’t about himself it was about his mom. “I never imagined I’d make it that far,” he says, crediting God’s grace, his coach, and his mentors for helping him reach that stage. For Stephon, the crown is not just recognition but a responsibility to inspire change, amplify youth voices, and advocate for causes close to his heart especially environmental health.

Leadership is nothing new to him. Beyond BNHS, Stephon also serves as Drama Club President, Key Club President, and Deputy Junior Councilor. Each role, he says, has taught him collaboration, humility, and the importance of serving with integrity. “Leadership isn’t about doing it all alone it’s about working together and uplifting others.”

Stephon’s reign as Mr. BNHS is about more than appearances. He envisions young Bahamian men stepping up as role models, teaching responsibility, respect, and confidence to the next generation. His own mission is to spark meaningful conversations while proving that making a difference can be impactful and fun.

Behind the spotlight, Stephon leans on a strong support system friends, mentors, his pageant family, and especially his mom, who never fails to keep him grounded with encouragement (and a few playful tie-pin jokes).

Looking ahead, Stephon plans to pursue a degree in Cybersecurity or Computer Science while continuing to mentor and lead. “Being a king isn’t about a crown,” he reflects. “It’s about integrity, humility, and inspiring others every single day.”

Bahamasair’s Frequent Flyer Program just got an upgrade and it’s all about miles, not points. Forget the old point system: now, you simply earn actual miles flown, starting from the moment you hit 250 miles. As you climb the tiers Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum you unlock perks like dedicated check-in, pre-boarding, waived change fees, free or bonus baggage, and even free off-peak tickets at the top Platinum level. Redemption is straightforward: one-way trips range from 5,000 to 7,500 miles, depending on the season. A few restrictions still apply, there are modest fees for itinerary changes, reroutes, and loyalty card replacements but it’s still a sleek deal for frequent island-hoppers. This is proof that Bahamasair is moving toward a modern, loyalty-driven model that’s fitting for a national carrier flying within one of the world’s top tourism destinations.

Ever stepped onto a Bahamian beach and groaned at the sight of piles of seaweed? Most of us shrug it off as a messy nuisance but what if we’ve been overlooking one of the most versatile resources right under our noses?

Seaweed, particularly Sargassum, is everywhere along our coasts, yet it remains drastically underutilized. While it’s packed with nutrients like iodine, calcium, and antioxidants, very little of it makes its way into diets or the markets. Farmers rarely tap into its potential as a natural fertilizer, even though it can enrich soil and boost crop yields without synthetic chemicals. And industries have barely scratched the surface of its possibilities biodegradable packaging, biofuels, and eco-friendly compost could all be made from seaweed, reducing waste and supporting sustainability.

Environmentally, seaweed is a powerhouse. It protects shorelines from erosion, provides shelter for marine life, and absorbs carbon dioxide. Yet most of it is removed or ignored, washed away without realizing its full value. Across the Caribbean, innovators are starting to harness seaweed for food, agriculture, and industrial use but in The Bahamas, it’s still an untapped goldmine.

Next time you see seaweed on the beach, don’t just see a messy pile. Imagine the nutrients, the sustainable products, and the environmental benefits we’re missing out on. This underused resource might just be one of The Bahamas’ most overlooked treasures.
