What Da Wybe Is? This week, we’re uncovering the story of the San Salvador II the RBDF Ship that vanished for 25 years now rediscovered. Enjoy this issue!

For 25 years, the HMBS San Salvador II lay forgotten beneath the waters off New Providence, its story drowned in the depths of history. Recently, that story resurfaced when the ship was rediscovered during a deep-sea exploration. For Bahamians, this isn’t just about a shipwreck—it’s about reconnecting with a piece of our national story.

Originally commissioned in 1955 as the USCGC Cape Fox for the U.S. Coast Guard, this vessel became part of Bahamian history in 1989 when it was transferred to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. Renamed the San Salvador II, it was a symbol of national pride, patrolling and protecting Bahamian waters. However, its service was cut short in 1999 when it faced a tragic end. While being transported for repairs, a fierce storm and an engine fire left the crew with no choice but to abandon ship. The ocean claimed the vessel, and for over two decades, it remained hidden in the depths—until now.

The wreck was found at an incredible depth of 820 feet by a team of divers who were on a routine mission. Imagine the scene: the once-proud vessel now eerily preserved in the silence of the ocean floor, a ghostly reminder of its former glory.

The rediscovery of the San Salvador II serves as a powerful metaphor. It reminds us that even lost stories can resurface and that our history is worth exploring. For young Bahamians, it’s a call to embrace curiosity—not just about the mysteries of the ocean, but about our heritage as a whole.

Who knows what other secrets lie waiting in our waters? The San Salvador II is proof that the ocean holds more than fish and coral—it holds our past, waiting for us to rediscover it.

One of the taglines for this sequel: It Pays To Switch Sides. An infamous crew of diamond thieves plot a massive heist of the world's largest diamond exchange with the of successful bank robber from another country. Unbeknownst to the bank robber, he is being hunted by former head of the law enforcement division he escaped from who has alligned him with the local task force of the country the diamond heist is planned to take place.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is a sequel that has a better grasp of what it is when compared to the original which makes it a better watch than the previous entry. This installment shows the maturity of the surviving characters from the first movie with the 7 year gap between productions that makes them feel more like real people instead of caricatures spewing tough guy catch phrases. Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr. do a good job of showing growth, but the roles of Evin Ahmad and Yasen Zates Atour could have used some beefing up to make the audience care more about the outcome of their very different characters. Christian Gudegast's directing feels more focused this time around and his script does not feel as cluttered when compared to the first one, which actually gives me hope for a solid entry in the planned third film.

I rate this motion picture sequel a rating of 2 & 1/2 out of 5.

We’ve all heard it before: New year, new me! Cue the gyms packed with people sweating out holiday indulgences and the search for healthier eating options in full swing. If you’re tired of the usual spots (looking at you, Subway!) and craving something fresh and satisfying, let me put you on to Tropical Breeze in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Conveniently located near the airport, this cozy little spot is perfect for a quick bite. They offer a variety of options like wraps, sandwiches, salads, poke bowls, and daily specials. I even spotted a breakfast menu featuring Bahamian classics. What really stands out, though, is their selection of toppings. Think outside the usual lettuce and tomato: they’ve got edamame, chickpeas, pickled cabbage, and pickled onions alongside the familiar staples like carrots, cucumbers, and beets. It’s like a salad bar that actually gets you excited.

For my first visit, I tried the rotisserie chicken special and grabbed a shrimp wrap. First off, the portion sizes are solid—$12 got me a wrap with a salad, and the rotisserie chicken plate was $13. Value for money? They hit the mark on this one.

Now, let’s talk taste. Biting into the shrimp wrap, I could tell immediately how fresh the ingredients were—so fresh it practically screamed “HEALTHY!” But don’t worry, the sauces are the real MVP here. I went with the spicy mayo and Peruvian sauce (highly recommend), which brought the whole wrap to life. As for the rotisserie chicken? Chef’s kiss. It was juicy, flavorful, and was just what I was looking for as a much-needed break from the fried food everyone seems to sell everyday.

Tropical Breeze is the kind of deli you’ll want to keep in your rotation, especially if you’re trying to keep things light for lunch. Whether you’re building your own salad or trying one of their specials, you’ll find something that feels fresh and satisfying.

So, what are you waiting for? Hit up Tropical Breeze and let us know what you think—your taste buds (and your New Year’s resolutions) will thank you!

The Whirlpool That Has Nassau Talking

When Fusion Superplex unveiled their latest attraction, the “Whirlpool,” they set out to revolutionize entertainment in Nassau. Instead, they sparked a social media frenzy, where the ride itself became the punchline.

The Whirlpool, a zero-gravity spinning ride offering a full minute of dizzying thrills, is part of Fusion’s ambitious lifestyle amusement park, set to open in Winter 2026. While the idea of such an innovative experience has generated excitement, Bahamians on social media had a different reaction—humor.

From memes to witty comments, the online buzz captured both skepticism and curiosity. One user quipped, “Fusion out here building a human salad spinner,” while another joked, “Who approved this?”

Despite the jokes, Fusion’s marketing team embraced the buzz, allowing locals and influencers to experience the Whirlpool early. Those who dared to spin shared their reactions, fueling even more conversations online. The strict 5'1" height requirement added exclusivity, ensuring the ride felt both thrilling and slightly intimidating.

Beyond the humor, the Whirlpool highlights a bigger picture. Fusion is stepping into uncharted territory by introducing bold, new attractions. While some locals poke fun, others see it as a sign of progress for entertainment options in the Bahamas.

Love it or laugh at it, Fusion has achieved something many brands struggle with: they’ve got everyone talking. Whether you’re planning to spin into Fusion for the full experience or prefer to watch the chaos unfold from the sidelines, the Whirlpool has solidified its place in Nassau’s cultural conversation.

With all eyes on Fusion, can they keep the momentum spinning? Only time will tell if the Whirlpool is just a moment or the start of something bigger.
