Meme of the week

Hey everyone, it’s Rouén Robinson, your new go-to for all things Movies and TV at Wybe. I have been reviewing motion pictures since 2008, with my reviews featured on Bahama Islands Info, Kyron Media, and The Bahamas Weekly. You might’ve caught me on The Cinemas on Tempo or on He Said She Said for Galleria Cinemas in Freeport. And yes, I have also been a judge for Widescreen Film Festival in 2024, 2019, 2018 & 2017 so trust me, I know what’s going on.

We all know the struggle is real when it comes to picking what to watch with all the options out there. That’s where I come in, to give you the real deal on what’s worth your time and what’s not. I’m excited to bring my expertise to Wybe and work with the team to keep you in the know. Let’s make this journey fun and informative.

Quote of the week

I asked my Instagram followers to name the best brunch spot, and two places stood out: Another Broken Egg and First Watch, both in the USA.

Today’s review will focus on First Watch. With several locations in South Florida, each offers a consistently welcoming atmosphere. What I love most is their seasonal menus—during my visits, they featured unique dishes like shrimp and grits for the spring and pumpkin pancakes for the fall. Their drink menu is just as exciting, with creative cocktails and a house mimosa that packs a punch.

I ordered my usual go-to brunch item, Eggs Benedict, although the hollandaise sauce was a bit sharp for my taste. I also tried "The Works" omelet, and their soft biscuits were a highlight. The sour cream on top was a surprisingly great addition to the omelet, pairing well in a way I didn’t expect.

The portions are generous, so be prepared for a full plate! Overall, I’m a fan of First Watch. The atmosphere is chic, and the prices are reasonable for the portion sizes. Next time, I’ll visit Another Broken Egg to see who takes the title of best franchise brunch spot.

Make sure to follow Wybe Magazine on Instagram and Facebook for weekly foodie polls so we can review your favorite spots.

Apple is gearing up to announce the iPhone 16 lineup at its upcoming event, and with it comes iOS 18, first previewed at this year's WWDC. While the latest iPhones will fully support iOS 18, older models like the iPhone 8 and iPhone X won't be able to upgrade. However, if your device was compatible with iOS 17, it should work with iOS 18, meaning you won't need to rush into buying a new phone. On the downside, Apple’s new Apple Intelligence feature will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, so older devices will miss out.

As a proud Bahamian, it’s thrilling to see our very own Jonquel Jones making waves in the world of sports and fashion. The 2024 WNBA All-Star may have narrowly missed out on the 3-Point Contest win, but she’s certainly scored big with her latest achievement: the release of her very own Nike KD 17 PE.

Jones’ Nike KD 17 Bahamas PE, which hit the shelves on August 29, 2024, celebrates her Bahamian roots with a design that truly embodies the spirit of the islands. This special edition sneaker features a mesmerizing color palette inspired by the Bahamas’ tranquil waters and vibrant natural beauty. The engineered mesh upper showcases cool blue tones that mirror the pristine waters of our beloved archipelago. Dark grey TPU overlays offer structural support reminiscent of the Air Max Plus, while green accents on the Swoosh and top eyelets evoke the lush tropical foliage found throughout the Bahamas. The coral-shaded laces add a lively pop of color, enhancing the island-inspired aesthetic.

One of the most distinctive features of the Nike KD 17 Bahamas PE is the detailed debossed map of the Bahamas on the heel, which highlights the country's diverse islands and pays homage to Jones' heritage. The sneaker’s green foam midsole with Air Zoom cushioning ensures both performance and comfort, while the tonal blue rubber outsole provides the necessary traction and durability for the court.

For those eager to add this piece of Bahamian pride to their collection, the Jonquel Jones x Nike KD 17 Bahamas PE is available for $150 in women’s sizes at Nike and select retailers. Keep an eye on local stores and online platforms to grab a pair and show off your support for one of our own who continues to shine on the global stage.
