What Da Wybe Is? Today is 242 day lets celebrate what makes us Bahamian! Our ambassadors have some heat cooked up for you this week.

Yes, bey, it’s February 24th, 242 Day the official-unofficial celebration of all things Bahamian.

It’s the one day of the year where no matter where in the world you are, you’re reminded that the 242 isn’t just an area code, it’s a lifestyle. It’s the sound of rake ‘n’ scrape in the background, the smell of cracked conch fresh out the grease, and the familiar sight of people wearing Bahamian drip. It’s that first sip of Switcha, that deep debate about who really makes the best conch fritters, and the knowing look you give when someone hits you with a “Bey, you straight?”

But 242 Day is more than just a day to post and party. It’s a reminder of what makes us unique, the way we talk, the way we move, and the way we show up for each other. It’s the pride in hearing a Bahamian accent abroad, the instant connection when you meet someone from home, and the resilience that keeps us pushing forward no matter what. Whether we’re here in the Bahamas or repping from across the globe, being Bahamian is a whole experience.

So today, forget the stress, turn up the Bahamian music, and let yourself feel that sense of home. Link up with your people, get your hands on some good Bahamian food, and let’s do what we do best, laugh loud, talk big, and represent.

Happy 242 Day! Now go let the world know who we is!

Lets talk about it , it's impossible to talk about this album without mentioning the beef between him and Kendrick Lamar, where the Compton rapper basically curb stomped him for a year straight. Drake has licked his wounds before with a big hit (In My Feelings after Pusha T) but Some Sexy Songs 4 U serves up none of the quirky, nearly hedonistic sense of joy of his previous albums and only further highlight his artistic decline. "Nokia" and “Meet your padre”is the only highlight in a sea of mid, where the vocals are processed to oblivion, the nocturnal Toronto production has become dated, and neither him nor Partynextdoor can muster any real emotional sincerity with their lyrics. Ever since Views, he's just lazily approached music with the idea that more is more; another 20+ track album of the same whining, paranoia, and jaded bitterness over relationships he's been writing about for a decade i feel like it never changes . It's honestly sad that one of most successful rapper of the 2010s has simply become boring to listen to this album isnt really the best . Drake has made some of my favorite rap albums (Take Care, If You're Reading This It's Too Late) with a strong sense of variety and vulnerability, but songs like "Gimme a Hug", "Deeper", and "Glorious" all tell the story of an artist who's lost his touch almost like warming up a hot patty you been waiting to eat and then someone else comes and eats it.

Guess That Bahamian Song

One of the taglines for this movie: The Future Favors The Brave. The new official bearer of a legendary heroic title must contend with doubts he has of his worthiness while protecting those who attempted to keep the title from him. All as the planet reacts to the consequences of different governments around the globe attempting to secure a newly found element with endless possibilities.

Captain America: Brave New World captures some of the intrigue of the television series The Falcon & the Winter Soldier. but truly excels at the action it brings to the big screen with its seemingly halfhearted attempt to tie up loose ends from 2008's The Incredible Hulk. Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson brings his own flavor to Captain America and Harrison Ford makes the character of Thaddeus Ross his own as he takes over the role from the late William Hurt. There is something to be said about the plot of a film that includes a reveal which has already been publicized in the promotional material & commercials for the feature like what happened with last year's Abigail... which coincidentally also has Giancarlo Esposito in the cast. This particular cinematic installment took on the unenviable task of trying to be as earnest as Captain America: The First Avenger, as conspiracy-ridden as Captain America: The Winter Soldier and as firmly connected to the MCU as Captain America: Civil War while delivering a film that can enjoyed on its own terms without seeing any of the others and it had varying degrees of success on all fronts.

P.S.
There is a mid credit scene that promises not only more incursions from beyond the stars but hints at a very high probability of new powered beings from dimensions both foreign and domestic.

February 24th (the 24th day of the 2nd month—242, get it?) is all about celebrating the Bahamas and everything that makes us us! It’s a day to honor our rich history, vibrant culture, and unshakable unity. And guess what? There are three simple ways to get in the spirit today:

  1. Wear our national colors with pride.

  2. Immerse yourself in Bahamian music, art, and entertainment all day long.

  3. Indulge in some mouthwatering Bahamian food (you know this one is top of my list).

And where better to do that than in the OG foodie hotspot of Grand Bahama—West End.

West End has been holding it down as a community staple for decades. If you head there on a Saturday or Sunday, you’ll find spots buzzing with life—beginning at Chicken Nest all the way down to Coffee on the Bay. Expect to feast on authentic Bahamian favorites like lobster, conch, and fish, paired with panny cake, conch fritters, or rolls. And if you’re feeling adventurous, check out creative spins on the classics—like Shabo’s pickled conch salad that locals swear by.

A Little West End History (Because our history is cool)- Beneath the laid-back vibe of this coastal village is a wild history of smugglers, rum runners, and wreckers. Back in the 1860s, West End played a major role in blockade running during the American Civil War. But its most famous era? The Prohibition years, when the town became a hub for liquor smuggling. In 1946—just before Freeport even existed—West End got its first major hotel, The Star Hotel, built by local legend and former Senator Austin H. Grant Sr. Unfortunately this monument is gone forever due to severe hurricane damage over the years. All remains is the foundation of what was.

West End isn’t just a place to grab amazing food—it’s a spot packed with history, culture, and stories written in its very streets. If you’ve got a favorite food stop in West End, send us a video or photos, and you just might get featured in our next issue 🇧🇸

SpaceX Booster Landing: A Win for History, A Worry for the Environment

This week, the world watched as SpaceX’s booster rocket successfully landed in Bahamian waters, marking a historic moment in space exploration. However, the buzz surrounding the event has sparked a division of opinion across the Bahamas. While many celebrate the achievement, others are voicing serious concerns about the potential environmental impact, especially for Exuma, a jewel among the Bahamian islands.

Exuma, known for its pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters, is one of the most beautiful islands in the Bahamas, attracting tourists from around the world. For us, it’s more than just a scenic escape; it's an essential part of the Bahamian economy, with tourism being the leading source of income. The idea that such a historic event could have unforeseen consequences on the environment has struck a nerve for many, who feel that the beauty of their islands is being gambled with for the sake of progress.

While some Bahamians are excited by the role their country is playing in the global space race, others are deeply concerned about the impact of rocket debris and noise pollution on marine life and local ecosystems. Even successful launches and landings have effects on the environment. With tourism being so central to our economy, many feel that the long-term effects of this technology on our environment could threaten their livelihoods. The risk of harming the very resource that sustains them has left some questioning whether the cost of progress is too high.

As the debate continues, it’s clear that Bahamians are torn between celebrating a historical achievement and protecting the future of their natural resources. The challenge lies in finding a balance between innovation and preservation, ensuring that the beauty of the islands remains untouched for generations to come.
